10 Rules of Fat Loss

A Pedometer is the Key to Fitness and Weight Loss

Pedometers are your best kept secret to making exercising easier, improving your health and having fun in the process. They help to streamline your walking routine and move you closer to your physical goals, one step at a time. Walking is one of the simplest, most cost-effective, and enjoyable forms of activity. Clipping on a pedometer helps to take out all of the guess work and lets you see your accomplishments before your eyes. How long will it be before you begin to see results? The answer: almost immediately! You will first notice a difference in your energy followed by improvements in your fitness level, performance, fat loss and muscular endurance.

A pedometer gives you specific feedback on your progress and inspires you to go a little longer or make better time in the same distance. Glancing down at your pedometer is assurance that you are doing your body a world of good. When clipped onto your belt, the pedometer (which is smaller than a pager) can be just the inspiration you need to get you moving from sedentary to fabulously fit. Put it on when you get out of bed in the morning to see how many steps you take all day. Gradually build your way up to a goal of 10,000 steps a day which is predicted to be the amount necessary for heart health. Do periodic step checks throughout the day to make sure you are achieving your goal. This way you will not be left with a majority of the steps to do at night. You can set goals to increase your steps by 5 percent increments every day until you reach 10,000. Don’t worry if it takes you a month or a year or more.

Start slowly and incorporate some of the following tips for using a pedometer to build up to 10,000 steps a day:

Any time you are waiting, get moving. For example, take a walk while waiting to pick the kids up from practice, waiting for your car to be serviced or waiting for a plane.

Do all of your Saturday errands on foot. For example, park your car on one side of town and walk to the bank, post office, card store, video store and so on.

Make it a family affair. Share quality time taking an evening walk rather than sitting at the table eating seconds or lying on the couch. Push the baby in a stroller or walk alongside the kids on their bikes.

Keep a journal. Note your total miles each day. Record how you felt after exercising as well as your goals for the next day. Some sophisticated pedometers can download all of your data.

Have rewards ready. For example, when you reach 5,000 steps, buy a new CD to listen to while you walk. When you reach 7,500 steps, treat yourself to a massage.

Park your car at the end of the lot or in the next lot over.

Get off the train a stop early.

Take the scenic route by foot to your office or when traveling about during the work day.

Use the stairs instead of the elevator.

On long drives, stop every hour and walk around for 15 minutes.

Meet friends for a walk rather than lunch.

Make walking fun by dancing to your favorite music.

Use the push mower instead of the riding mower.

Join a walking club.

Sign up for a walk-a-thon and begin training today.

Volunteer to train a guide dog for the blind or handicapped.

There are enjoyable places to walk everywhere you look including golf courses, parks, rail trails, city streets, beaches, college campuses and so on. All you need to get started are some supportive sneakers, loose fitting clothing, a bottle of water and your pedometer.

What Americans Eat

How does your nutrition score card look – healthy, need improvements or off the charts? This weeks column will give you some in site as to what Americans are eating, what the food trends have been over the past 20 years are as well as some healthy guidelines for you to eat by.

You maybe surprised to hear that Americans are eating less red meat, more poultry and slightly more fish and shellfish. Unlike red meat and poultry, seafood does not yet require federal inspection so proceed cautiously when selecting fish.

There has been a 300% increase in the drinking of low fat and not fat milk compared to a 54% decline in the consumption of whole milk.

Americans are consuming fewer eggs due to the media attention concerning cholesterol and its links to coronary heart disease.

Since 1968 fat and oil consumption has increased almost 20% due to a greater intake of fried foods particularly from fast-food restaurants and increased consumption of salad oils. Decreases are shown for the use of butter, shortening and margarine.

The consumption of sweetners especially high-fructose corn sweeteners has increased along with a dramatic rise in low-caloire sweeteners including aspartame. Some healthful low glycemic food choices include navy beans, kidney beans, lentils and peanuts.

More than 40% of Americans take supplements spending about 6 billion yearly. When vitamin intake achieves recommended levels, supplements neither improve exercise performance nor necessarily increase the blood levels of these micronutrients in healthy individuals.

While you seek to be at your full potential and acquire that PERFECT BODY by burning fat and dropping that BMI and toning up, I am seeking to become the BEST TRAINER IN LA.

Today I give you an amazing fat burning tip that has a 100% success rate with all of my clients.  I’m sorry but this is not a quick fix or an easy way out, but it is The Truth. You will have to put in some work, but it’s totaly worth the time and effort and you will LOSE WEIGHT FAST.  Instead of wasting another hour at the gym and not seeing results, start seeing a return on your invested time right now!

We all know that in order to lose weight you have to burn the calories you consume right?  Well lets just assume your’e doing your best and eating healthy for the most part.  How do you BURN THE MOST CALORIES DURING A WORKOUT? It’s all about WORKING OUT THE LEGS!! Yes cardio is great, but it’s even better and burns even more calories when done on legs that have just performed weight resistant exercises! Weight lifting is great and builds muscle and muscle burns fat and calories, but what part of the body burns the most fat and calories? You got it.. its the legs!!  The best part is that you don’t always need the gym to work those legs extremely well.  You cna do it in your living room if you wanted! If you do some  body weight squats, some walking lunges, some squat jumps and lunge shuffles, your are going to tire out those legs very quickly and burn a ton of calories. Now go do some cardio, I promise you will burn calories faster than a Hummer burns Gas. Not only that, but there is an after burn effect to working your legs with weight resistance. That means you continue to burn calories at an accelerated rate even while resting for up to 48 hours sometimes!

So why dont people work their legs?? Becuase it hurts!  But thats only at first. Learn to love the pain and accept that the more it hurts the more results you are going to see and you will be looking great in no time. I personally before becoming a personal trainer lost 30 lbs in 2 months by working out my legs and running afterwards. It works trust me. 100% of my clients get results.

If You Feel Better, Your Brain Performs Better

It has been said that through meditation, you are able to calm not only your body but your mind as well. It may sound too difficult to try, however, there are ways to make meditation as simple as possible. This article for those who are hesitant to meditate because of the perception that meditation is a difficult process. It may be true that in order to perfect your meditation skills you need to practice it for years, however, you can still begin with the simplest relaxation techniques. This will surely make you feel better, your brain relaxed a little and your whole being is rejuvenated.

Breath Watching

Find a spot where you can sit and relax comfortably. There, give close attention to your breathing for a few seconds. Basically, you just have to clear your mind for a moment and have a quiet time on your own.

Here are a few tips to assist you.
1) Find your spot

Since you are only a beginner, you may want to find a quiet place where you can meditate. As you become more expert in meditation, you will notice that you can already meditate anywhere you want to. For the mean time, find a spot where you can feel at peace.

2) Be comfortable

Look for your position which will keep you at ease but not asleep. For most people, crossing their legs is their meditation position. If you are the kind of person who can lie down without falling asleep, you may also try lying down for this may be your most comfortable position.

Just keep yourself perfectly still and comfortable but not asleep this should be your meditation position.

3) Let Go of the Tension

Observe which part of your body is most tensed. You should learn how to tense up those parts and then release the tension in such part. You may experience the release as your body begins to be drained from all the tension. If you repeat the process, you will later on learn how to relax easily.

4) Breathe properly

Breathe properly through your nose. In doing so, the air can easily pass through your lungs. You may notice that your diaphragm, abdomen and chest expand more when you breathe through your nose. This is how you should breathe.

5) Pay attention

There may be instances when your mind may be disturbed by other thoughts, but you should always remind yourself to go back into paying special attention to your breathing. With constant reminder, the thoughts that may disturb you will soon fade away. You may want to perform this meditation for at least five minutes. And then as you practice it more and more each day, you may want to perform it for a longer time. You should then be able to realize that these meditations can really help you clear your mind and increase your focus. By feeling better, your brain also performs better.

I hope you found this helpful!  Exercise is a great way to relieve stress.  Before or after work we have classes geared for all fitness levels :) Los Angeles Bootcamp
